World Party in the Park is a spectacular, high quality world arts education programme and event for families to celebrate the talents and diverse cultural traditions of the people who live and work in North Hampshire. The event will take place in Eastrop Park on 30 June 2012 to celebrate the Olympics and to launch the new Basingstoke Festival.
In the months leading up to the event, professional artists and performers will work with schools and communities throughout the borough to create costumes, artwork and performances related to world cultures. The programme will culminate in a festival parade and a free outdoor event with a focus on visual spectacle, world performance and public participation. The event will include storytelling, craft, music and dance workshops, a festival parade, street artists, a world food fair and performances by local, national and international artists.
Our 2011 World Party in the Park was Basingstoke's first professionally run large-scale world arts event. In addition to an extensive artist-led education programme with 21 local schools, performers and artists from around the globe came together in Eastrop Park on 2 July to create a stunning programme of music, dance, craft and other activities.
