Popley Poets Week
19th to 27th September 2005
Five primary schools (approximately 300 pupils) in Popley, Basingstoke, took part in Popley Poets Week, a week of artistic and literacy activities jointly organised by The Making and Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council. The event was funded by Queen Mary’s College and originally stemmed from an idea that local Popley resident and Pride in Our Place Award Winner, George Potten had thought of a few years before. The project draws inspiration from the ‘Popley Poets’ street names in Popley, and ties in with National Poetry Day held on Thursday 6 October 2005.
